Our favourite stone for the new season is the black diamond - a perfect accompaniment to your autumnal wardrobe.
Black diamonds are diamonds with a very high number of inclusions. Inclusions on a regular white or colourless diamond show up as tiny dark specks, when there are extremely high levels, the diamond appears completely black, making a very unique and rare kind of coloured diamond.
Now prized as “Fancy blacks,” natural black diamonds were historically held in low regard. There was little interest in them until the late 20th century, when designers started using them, tending to contrast them with smaller colourless diamonds in pavé settings.
Black diamond engagement rings became a trend when Mr Big gave Carrie a 5ct black diamond ring at the end of the Sex and the City 2 film. Other celebrities followed suit including Carmen Electra and the tattoo artist Kat Von D and Interest continues to grow.
